In contemporary implant dentistry, understanding the inflammatory response and tissue changes that occur following dental extraction has become a critical component of treatment planning. This is particularly important in the anterior and aesthetic zones, where even a routine extraction may result in alveolar bone resorption and soft tissue collapse, potentially compromising gingival architecture and the final restorative outcome.
This lecture explores biologically driven strategies for preserving alveolar bone and soft tissue from the pre-extraction stage through final restoration. Based on the biology of the natural tooth–periodontal complex, it also introduces the concepts and clinical applications of Partial Extraction Therapy. These techniques are designed to minimize inflammatory trauma, maintain periodontal support, and recreate natural gingival contours in complex aesthetic cases.
